Seattle mode- not doing anything for a day

It's healthy to get a day off, spend time alone, sleep as much as possible and do nothing... I truly enjoy my day off today, my body and mind could take a rest. Thank God!

Don’t give up!

The one who fails, is the one who stop trying. This words give me strenght in the darkest hours. The only way you can succeed in business, in life or in any other aspect is if you don’t quit; if you keep trying and trying. We, as entrepreneurs, as productive people, may taste failure, but you see, we never swallow it. That is the main thing setting us appart from the rest; an eternal learning experience. Other’s may fail, we just keep trying.

If you want to be more productive is because you have goals, you have somewere you want to be two, three years from today. You aren’t doing it because you wish to deliver work more quickly to your boss, or because you want to “just be organized” as a trivial thing. My guess is that you are doing it because you have goals and objetives to reach; and being more productive and organized may help a little in your journey. That is why you are here reading, I think.

Did you knew that Thomas Edison don’t just had success on the invention of the light bulb from night to day? he tryied over 10,000 light bulbs models before the one we know turned on. That is what I call success. 10,000, can you believe it? what a courage! what determination! what an example! it is great to have those kind of stories, of REAL stories.
Imagine for just one minute Thomas Edison surronding, his friends, his coworkers, hes employees. All those people yelling at him you can’t do it, quit. Now turn your head somewere in the room you are in right now and you will see all those people being wrong on the final result of Thomas Edison; the light bulb.

We aren’t talking about some Bill Gates or 14-year-old kid that invented “coolsite.com” and someone bought the domain name for twenty millions. We are talking about the determination, the passion of a man who danced on fire and never got burned. Many of us feel sometimes like “it is time to quit”, but we never do. I guess you don’t do it either, and that is why you are reading.

You can disagree with me on many forms, but you can’t deny the fact that Thomas Edison, like others in history, never surrender. And they were men, women, entrepreneurs and business owners just like you reading this post or my typing it. They information resources wasn’t so great like the ones we can enjoy right now with a click. Take advantage of that, live the experience of having the most complete and amazing library of resources right on your hand.

Such an exiting time!
We live in a wonderful time. We can not just be withness of the changes, but participate on those changes too. I encourage all of you to keep trying, to continue working, to keep doing what you do: TRY. If you fail, it doens’t care. Fail better next time. Keep failing.

Don’t give up.
Cheers
Javier Cabrera

Do & don't do

Thanks, Miss Strange! It's true!

Let's change!

“Keep your mind open to change all the time. Welcome it. Court it. It is only by examining and reexamining your opinions and ideas that you can progress.”

- Dale Carnegie

Dear Candy:

Change is necessary for an organization to grow. Change stems from new ideas. One of the best forums for discussion and new ideas is the workplace meeting. Here are some tips to make your meetings more productive:

- Develop an environment that encourages ideas
- Let all participants study the problems or issues in advance of the meeting
- Urge participants to "hitchhike" or build on ideas
- Do not evaluate any idea until after the meeting has ended

ASIIA Student Magazine Update

In order to making the magazine content coherent and managing the publication more effectively, we need core members to make the final decision for classmates. We need six core members to represent the best interest and lead the project for us. The positions are:

- Editor
- Associate editor
- Art Director
- Photo Editor
- Interview coordinator
- Reporter

The most important is that we will divide the workload by sections of the magazine. For example, Vivian will be in charge of her part- Class rep's feedback. Sahara will be in charge of the interview report with Gloria Chan. The workload will not be overlapped and everybody should be in charge of his/ her photo and profile in the biography section.

Therefore, if you are willing to sacrifice your personal time to serve for ASIIA classmates and dare to take the challenge, please contact Dave or me for the position. We will make the list of potential candidates and perform the voting at June 30, 2007.

Be enthusiastic

“Is enthusiasm important in selling? Yes, genuine, heartfelt enthusiasm is one of the most potent factors of success in almost any undertaking.”

- Dale Carnegie

Dear Candy:

Salespeople often face rejection, and it can be tough to stay upbeat on every call. Here are some ways to build and maintain one's enthusiasm:

- Act enthusiastic and you will feel enthusiastic
- Call a satisfied client when you feel you need a lift
- Spend more time with enthusiastic people, and less time with complainers
- Set achievable short range goals, and celebrate after you've reached them

Selfishness vs Altruism

Selfishness is, at base, the concept and/or practice of concern with one's own interests in some sort of priority to the interests of others; it is often used to refer to a self-interest that comes in a particular form, or above a certain level.

Do you have anybody selfish around you? Let's list out five names.

Altruism is the willful sacrifice of one's own interests or well-being for the sake of something that is non-self. It is also often defined as being the selfless concern for the welfare of others. It is a traditional virtue in many cultures, and central to many religious traditions. In English, this idea was often described as the Golden rule of ethics. In Buddhism it is considered a fundamental property of human nature. However, altruism also includes those who force others to sacrifice for some higher cause, even if it is a nonhuman or nonexistent one.

How's about altruist? Let's list out one...

From Memorable quotes for "Friends"

Joey: It is a love based of giving and receiving as well as having and sharing. And the love that they give and have is shared and received. And through this having and giving and sharing and receiving, we too can share and love and have... and receive.

Well, just love your neighbors, share what you have learnt and help your friends. Someday, it will pay back to you. Because... what comes around, goes around!!!

My home phone number will be gone soon

My dad is planning to cancel the telephone line at home tomorrow in order to cut our household operation cost. However, some of our friends might not be able to contact us if their phone books are not updated. Isn't it fair to both our friends and family who have lost touch with us for a while. When there is a chance, they think of us and pick up the phone to call us... it is priceless.

ITS's fault

Is it possible to get sued by keeping other's exam result in email box?

Dear Student

Examination Results Notifications for 2006-07 Semester 2

You may have received my email of 10 June 2007 informing you that errors have been discovered in the despatch of Examination Results Notifications (ERNs) to students for 2006-07 Semester 2.

As explained, although emergency measures have been taken to retract all the ERN mails previously despatched, the Information Technology Services Office (ITS) has no means to get back those mails which have been moved to other folders or forwarded to other email accounts. Based on the information provided by ITS, examination results of another student might have been sent wrongly to your email address and could not be retracted due to the above reason.

I am writing to urge you to take immediate action to delete any wrong information that you might have received, if you have not yet done so. Please be reminded that it is against the Data Privacy Ordinance for anyone to keep personal information of another person without authorization.

I would like to thank you for your co-operation in advance.

Who got my exam result by error?

PolyU Notice to polyu_stud_AS 9:14 pm (59 minutes ago)

Dear Student

Examination Results Notifications for 2006-07 Semester 2

I regret to inform you that a technical error occurred with the despatch of Examination Results Notifications (ERNs) through email on the evening of 8 June 2007. As a result, it was discovered that some students have received information which should not have been sent to them. The Information Technology Services Office (ITS) has immediately closed down the Campus Email System for urgent investigation at around 8.15 p.m. that evening. On the other hand, the alternative mechanism for students to check their examination results on web was monitored and released on schedule on 9 June 2007 for students' access. We believe that all students would have obtained information on their examination results through this means.

Staff members of ITS have been working since Friday evening to try to identify the root of the problem. In the meantime, emergency measures have been taken to retract all the ERN mails previously dispatched in order to reduce the extent of the problem. If you have forwarded your mail to another account or filed it in special folders, I urge you to immediately delete any ERN mail that contains information not concerning your examination results, if you have not already done so.

The University deeply regrets the occurrence of this most unfortunate incident and fully recognises its seriousness. I wish to apologize to each and every one of you and reassure you that we accord paramount importance in the protection of personal information of our students.

The ITS and AS will conduct a full investigation of the incident and will keep you informed of the outcome as soon as possible.

Thank you very much for your understanding and forbearance in this matter.

Mrs Nancy Tong
Academic Secretary
