Find a common ground with others

“As a negotiator, be a good listener: The more you listen, the more you learn. The less you talk, the less likely you are to damage your position.”

Dear Candy:

Customers don't always accept a product/service solution as it is presented. Finding mutually agreeable common ground that fulfills their needs and expectations requires negotiating skills. Here are some tips on being an effective negotiator:

- Begin in a friendly way
- Be genuinely interested in others
- Try honestly to see things from the other person's point of view
- Show respect for the other person's opinion;
- Never say "you're wrong."
